The Constitutional Council (CC) is scheduled to convene tomorrow (23) at the Speaker's Residence.
Former Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, former Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, and other ex-officio members of the CC are scheduled to attend the meeting, the Speaker's Media Division said today (22).
Jayasuriya issuing a statement last week warned of an impending constitutional crisis if general elections were postponed and a new Parliament could not be summoned to meet by 2nd June 2020.
He warned that such a crisis entails the risk of delegitimising and destabilising the country and could gravely impact Sri Lanka’s prospects of obtaining economic relief.
