Cabinet Spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella stated that contact tracing for COVID-19 is proved to be difficult when there are large public gatherings such as New Year festivals, and that the public should not be reckless.
“The government and police, along with the Public Health Inspectors Union, have allowed the public to hold small scale festivals without gathering large crowds. However, the public must make sure to take health precautions during this time because there is an imminent threat of a third COVID wave,” he stated at the Cabinet press briefing.
He stated that the public must make sure to get the relevant permission from health authorities before holding such events.
He also stated that relief has also been given to the public during the New Year season.
