The Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) formed during the Yahapalana Government stands dissolved following the prorogation of the Parliament, COPE Chairman Sunil Handunnetti said. The COPE was to meet today to discuss the forensic audit reports with regard to the CBSL Treasury Bond investigations. According to Handunnetti the COPE meeting scheduled at 10.00 a.m.  today was cancelled, as the term of the COPE ended, following the prorogation of the Parliament. Yesterday, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa issued a gazette proroguing Parliament until 10 a.m. on 3 January 2020. "Copies of the CBSL forensic audit reports are kept safe in the Parliament. Once the parliamentary session begins next year, the new Chairman of COPE and the members can take these investigations forward," Handunnetti said. "I hope the new Chairman and the Committee, will report necessary points in the forensic reports to the Court," Handunnetti added. The COPE is a Financial Committee in the Parliament which consists of twelve members nominated by the Committee of Selection. The duty of this Committee is to examine the accounts of the Public Corporations and of any Business Undertaking vested in the Government.
