Court of Appeal rejects ex-Magistrate Gamage's appeal

05 Feb 2020

The Court of Appeal has rejected an appeal filed by former Magistrate Thilina Gamage who sought an order to prevent a case against him being taken up for trial at the Colombo High Court . Gamage and three others have been indicted by the Attorney General(AG) for allegedly keeping an elephant in contravention to the Public Property and Fauna and Flora Act without a valid license. Gamage has alleged that he was politically victimised by former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe by filing this case as he refused to act according to the former premier’s instructions when serving as a magistrate. The case was taken up on a complaint made by the then subject Minister Wasantha Senanayake.
