Court postpones decision on Ravi's warrant until 2.30 p.m. today

The Colombo Fort Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake today postponed the decision on the arrest warrant on former Minister Ravi Karunanayake and 10 others until 2.30 p.m. today (6). The Court made this announcement when the case was taken up this morning (6). The Fort Magistrate had noted that a questionnaire had been forwarded to the Attorney General(AG) in regard to the arrests and that the AG had requested time to provide a reply.
AG on on Tuesday(3)  directed the Acting IGP Senior DIG C.D. Wickramaratne to obtain warrants from court and arrest Karunanayake, former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran, Director of Perpetual Treasuries Limited (PTL) Arjun Aloysius, Chief Executive Officer of PTL Kasun Palisena & eight others. The order was issued charging the suspects of conspiracy, criminal misappropriation, cheating and market manipulation in regard to the bond auctions of March 2016. On Wednesday(5) the Colombo Fort Magistrate imposed a travel ban on Karunanayake and 10 others and said that he will rule on Friday (6) on whether to issue arrest warrants for the suspects.
