Covid-19 : Confirmed cases cross 18,000 mark

The total number of Covid-19 cases in Sri Lanka passed the grim milestone of 18,000 on Tuesday (17) as 241 more individuals were tested positive for the virus. According to the Department of Government Information, all fresh cases have been identified as close contacts of the earlier patients from the Minuwangoda-Peliyagoda cluster. The dual cluster has seen a steady surge in its positive cases since the beginning of October, with a record total of 14,568. Ministry of Health data revealed that confirmed Covid-19 cases in Sri Lanka now stand at 18,075. According to the Epidemiology Unit, 5,799 active cases continue to receive treatment at selected hospitals across the country. Meanwhile, the country’s Covid-19 recoveries reached 12,210 earlier the same day after 404 patients were discharged from hospitals upon returning to health.
