Covid-19 hot zones: 13 areas isolated islandwide

By Maheesha Mudugamuwa Thousands of residents in 13 areas in Kandy, Ja-Ela, Akkaraipattu, Puttalam, Polonnaruwa, and Colombo have so far been placed under isolation due to the Covid-19 threat, Sri Lanka Police said. Accordingly, Akurana in Kandy, Suduwella in Ja-Ela, Pannila, Cheena Kotuwa, and Akkaragoda in Beruwala, Akkaraipattu 19 Division, Rathmalyaya, Attamilla, and Kadaniyakulam in Puttalam, Nagalagam Street in Colombo, Bandaranayake Mawatha in Keselwatta, and Pulathisipura and Lankapura in Polonnaruwa are now identified as isolated zones. On Wednesday (22), 12 villages in the Lankapura Divisional Secretariat in the Polonnaruwa District were isolated following the detection of a patient who tested positive for Covid-19 from the area. Accordingly, the authorities have sealed off the entry and exit points of these villages until further notice. In addition, 43 persons from Pumadiya village in Abhayapura, where the coronavirus patient in question was residing, have been directed to quarantine centres. A patient who was receiving treatment at the Polonnaruwa General Hospital tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Wednesday. In addition, 1,010 residents belonging to 242 families of the Bandaranayake Mawatha in Colombo 12 were sent to quarantine centres by the Army. They were quarantined following the detection of a large number of Covid-19- positive cases in the area. Meanwhile, all those who were associated with a fish vendor who has tested positive for Covid-19 in Piliyandala have been asked to undergo self-quarantine. Sri Lanka has confirmed a total of 330 coronavirus cases so far, with 105 recoveries, 218 active cases, and seven fatalities.
