17 Nov 2020

The Minuwangoda cluster that erupted as the starting point of the second Covid-19 wave in Sri Lanka was now brought under complete control, Army Commander Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva stated. A total of 3,106 infections were identified from the cluster which originated from Minuwangoda. However, only 136 of them are currently under medical treatment while the rest have been discharged upon recovery, the Army Chief said. “When the Minuwangoda cluster was identified, over 1,000 persons had been infected even by the first day. That means nearly 2,000 had been infected. We were able to stop the spread at 3,106 cases.” Meanwhile, the Army Chief said that home quarantine was initiated considering the issues of transporting patients of the Peliyagoda Fish Market cluster to quarantine centres.
