'Covid-19 patient's son has very low chance of contracting virus' - Dr. Anil Jasinghe

12 Mar 2020

Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe today (12)  said that the Covid-19 patient's son had a 'very low chance' of contracting virus.

Jasinghe made this statement following reports that had spread on social media today that the son had tested positive for the virus and that his school, Ananda College, had been closed. Jasinghe added that there was no need for the public to panic with regard to the issue as the patient's family had been put under 'home quarantine'. The child’s father was admitted to the IDH Hospital on suspicion of coronavirus and was later tested positive. The patient was identified as a 52 year-old tour guide, who had been in the presence of a group of Italians. According to Jasinghe the tour group had left the country. "We know the places the patient visited and have advised people in those relevant areas," Jasinghe added.
