Covid-19 situation ‘unsatisfactory’: Health Ministry

06 Oct 2021

BY Buddhika Samaraweera Pointing out that over 500 cases of Covid-19 infections and nearly 50 deaths are being reported daily at present, the Health Ministry has stated that it is therefore imperative that the public continue to follow the Covid-19-related health guidelines in order to prevent the further spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. Speaking at a media briefing held yesterday (6), the Health Ministry’s Communications Director, Public Health Services Deputy Director General (DDG), and the Disaster Preparedness and Response Division Head Dr. Hemantha Herath said that the current Covid-19 pandemic situation is still unsatisfactory as more than 500 infections and between 40-50 Covid-19 deaths are still being reported on a daily basis. “Therefore, we urge the people not to act in a manner that reverses what has been achieved by controlling the disease to this extent from a very serious situation,” he added. Speaking further, Dr. Herath added that if the people do not follow the Covid-19-related health guidelines properly during this period of reopening, the results would be seen in about two weeks. “The easing of certain limitations to be relaxed in the future may also be delayed if the number of Covid-19 infections and deaths increase again,” he emphasised.
