Covid-19 : Strict measures inside prisons

By Maheesha Mudugamuwa The Department of Prisons yesterday (9) assured that it had taken all necessary steps to stop the spread of the Covid-19 within prisons premises around the country. [caption id="attachment_93027" align="alignleft" width="300"] Commissioner General of Prisons Thushara Upuldeniya[/caption] Speaking to The Morning, Commissioner General of Prisons Thushara Upuldeniya said the daily PCR testings as well as the disinfection processes are being continuously conducted within all prison premises. “We have taken a decision today to allocate the Welikada Prison Hospital for the treatment of male prisoners while Negombo Prison Hospital will be converted to treat female prisoners,” he said. Meanwhile, a total of 107 prison inmates are confirmed to have contracted Covid-19, and the infected inmates are reported from the Welikada and Bogambara Prisons. Amongst the infected are 90 female inmates. Upuldeniya further said the infected prisoners would be transferred to the allocated hospitals.
