Covid-19: Threat from illegal immigrants

By Maheesha Mudugamuwa Ministry of Health Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera urged the public to be vigilant and follow all Covid-19-related health guidelines issued by the authorities as there was a threat posed by illegal immigrants from other countries, especially India where the pandemic is still at large, spreading the virus in Sri Lanka. According to Dr. Samaraweera, there was a threat posed by illegal immigrants from different countries including India, and if such an immigrant was Covid-19-positive, there is a threat of the virus spreading within society. He told The Morning that there was no such threat in society at present, but the public should be vigilant and follow all the health guidelines. Meanwhile, the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) urged the law enforcement authorities to monitor whether the public was adhering to the Covid-19-related health guidelines as the coronavirus threat would be in the country for another year at least.
