COVID patient spitting at PHI: Police warns stern action against obstructors

03 Dec 2020

Stern action would be taken against those who obstruct the duties of health officials engaged in COVID-19 preventive measures, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said today. He said this attributing to the incident where a COVID-19 patient spat on the face of a Public Health Officer (PHI) at Atalugama yesterday. “When the PHI of the area visited Atalugama to transport the patient to a treatment centre, that person has rejected treatment and obstructed the PHI and spat on his face,” the DIG said. He said the Bandargama Police has launched an investigation into incident, especially on charges of obstructing and intimidating a government officer. “We are conducting further investigations into the incident and taking stern action against these types of persons. The PHIs and other health officials are trying to protect the people from the pandemic. If a person is objecting a PCR test or treatment, that person will be considered a traitor and stern action will be taken against them,” he said.
