Covid patients to be referred to nearest intermediate treatment centers

17 May 2021

The Ministry of Health says that it has decided to provide necessary treatment to those infected with the Covid-19 virus by referring them to the nearest treatment and intermediate centers. The decision was made after analysing the severe stress that affects an individual and his or her family when they become infected. The Covid-19 Special Action Task Force has met today (17) to take immediate action on the current Covid-19 mitigation efforts. It was also decided to provide necessary medical equipment for the treatment centers being constructed by various governmental and non-governmental organizations in addition to the Ministry of Health. The provision of medical staff including doctors and nurses has also been expedited. Plans have also been made to accelerate the process of importing stocks of vaccines required to administer the second dose. Rapid antigen testing is increasingly being conducted in the field in parallel with PCR tests to identify Covid-19 infected persons. The meeting was chaired by Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi and attended by Dr. Sudarshani Fernandopulle, Specialist Minister of State for Primary Health Care, Epidemiology and Epidemiology at the Ministry of Health Auditorium.
