Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said today that there is a possibility of Sri Lanka getting a COVID-19 vaccine through COVAX facility by the end of January.
Speaking at a news briefing, Dr. Samaraweera said the World Health Organisation (WHO) has approved one COVID vaccine (Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine) for emergency use.
“There is a possibility of getting this vaccine by January end and we will have to store them at minus 70 degrees Celsius. We have the storage facilities but have to be more careful since the vaccine could become inactive if exposed to high temperature,” he said.
He added that other COVID-19 vaccines will be hopefully received during the first three months of this year to be given to the people.
