The COVID-19 vaccine is expected to be distributed to all schoolteachers by the end of this month and the first week of March, stated Minister of Education G. L. Pieris today.
Addressing the media in Anuradhapura, the Minister stated that discussions have already been held with the health sector in this regard.
“I have suggested that teachers should be vaccinated, as they are exposed to a greater risk and they come into contact with a larger number of people,” he stated.
It was revealed that discussions were held with Covid-19 Vaccine Committee Chairman and Senior Advisor to the President Lalith Weerathunga to prioritize schoolteachers in the public vaccine drive.
“In the event that we would not be able to complete the vaccination of schoolteachers by February, given the large amount of vaccinations happening, the operation is expected to be complete by March,” Pieris said.
