CPC seeks hike in prices

11 Oct 2021

The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) said that the prices of fuel needs to be increased as the CPC has suffered a loss of Rs. 70 Billion. Chairman Sumith Wijesinghe told reporters today (11) that given the losses incurred by the CPC, there is no other option but to increase the fuel prices. The Morning contacted Media Spokesperson to the Ministry of Energy Aravinda Athukorala today (11), who confirmed that a proposal on the same has been presented, yet a decision will not be made in the near future. "Yes, a proposal has been made by the CPC to increase the prices of fuel, whereas a decision cannot be taken with such short notice. These things have to be thought through and only then can a final decision be made," said Athukorala.
