Customs collects Rs. 9.34 b import duty in one week

BY Dinitha Rathnayake The Sri Lanka Customs, which maintains its normal operations even during periods of quarantine curfew lockdowns, approved exports valued at Rs. 46.43 billion and collected import taxes amounting to Rs. 9.34 billion, in the one-week period from 28 August to 3 September 2021. The value of the exports approved by the Customs during the period from 28 August 2021 to 3 September 2021 was Rs. 46,427,903,400 (Rs. 46.43 billion). The amount collected as import duty by the Customs during the same period was Rs. 9,342,577,159 (Rs. 9.34 billion). Although, the current pandemic situation has had a significant impact on the officers of the Customs, in order to safeguard the economic stability of the country, customs officers are ensuring that all services are maintained in an uninterrupted manner whilst adhering to the health guidelines and instructions.
