The Ceylon Workers’ Congress (CWC) has decided to back Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
The decision was reached at discussions held between the CWC leadership and SLPP National Organiser Basil Rajapaksa yesterday, The Sunday Morning learnt.
The CWC and the SLPP will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) this week to cement their working agreement.
When contacted, CWC senior member and former Minister Muthu Sivalingam told The Sunday Morning that the CWC Executive Committee would meet today and look to ratify the decision.
The CWC is the biggest political party representing the estate sector.
The party has in the past backed the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.CWC to back Gota
