Dambulla Economic Centre reopens

20 Apr 2020

The Dedicated Economic Centre in Dambulla yesterday (19) reopened for operations after a period of closure for 15 days. Long queues of lorries and vehicles transporting vegetables for trading were witnessed yesterday outside the Dambulla Economic Centre. The economic centre was closed on 5 April by the authorities due to the failure of vendors and customers to follow the stipulated health and safety guidelines to prevent the spread of Covid-19. However, the decision to reopen the centre yesterday was reached following a discussion between Minister of Public Administration and Home Affairs and Provincial Councils and Local Government Janaka Bandara Tennakoon, the Dambulla Traders’ Association, and officials of the Department of Urban Health. Accordingly, the economic centre is to operate between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily under strict health guidelines, and the centre will also be subjected to a cleaning process from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Also, those who do not wear masks when entering the economic centre or those who remove their masks while inside are to be removed from the premises.
