Sri Lanka short-format batsman Danushka Gunathilaka, who faced an inquiry by a three-member panel assigned by the Administrative Committee that looks into country’s cricket, under Chairman Prof. Arjuna de Silva, has allegedly refused to sign the final inquiry report saying he needed to get instructions from his Player Manager before doing so.

He has signed it only after one of the members of the inquiry panel, Panduka Keerthinanda, has explained to him that the player is bound by a Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) contract and the player managers are not.

Gunathilaka has denied any wrongdoing, according to reliable sources, and has pledged it was only an acquaintance of his who was involved in the said brawl.

It was reported over the last weekend that the player had been assaulted by participants at a party after the former has allegedly attempted to sexually harass a female participant of the function.

Gunathilaka is unlikely to get any punishment for the alleged breach of conduct as there has not been any official complaint made against him over the alleged incident in police, the source added. Further, not CCTV footage of the occasion is said to be available.

SLC’s Head of Human Resources Tanesh Dias and another Sports Ministry representative have represented the inquiry panel who met with the player last afternoon at SLC headquarters at Maitland Place, Colombo.
