The recent controversial statements surrounding the killing of journalists made by the Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath have been unconditionally withdrawn, The Morning learnt. Speaking to The Morning, Dr. Herath stated that he has already submitted his apologies and he expressed deep regret over the statements made by him. “I didn't mean to say such a thing. I should have not made such a regretful statement but due to the heated exchange which was going on, the words slipped out of my mouth,” he expressed. He also added that it was a fault of his human nature and reiterated that he does not stand by the statements he made This apology comes after a heated argument which took place during a press conference on 03 June, where Herath asked the journalists in attendance not to behave like “third class journalists”, adding that such “third class journalists” were killed in the past for acting in such a manner.
