Covid body found in water tank: water consumed by people of the area

A body of a person infected with Covid-19 was found inside a water tank at the Gampola Hospital. The body was identified as S. Ilanbovan, a police sergeant of the Kotmale police station. The Morning spoke with Police Spokesperson SSP Nihal Thalduwa, who confirmed the same. "The body was of a police sergeant from the Kotmale police station. His entire family had tested positive and was receiving treatment at the Gampola hospital. On the 8th of September, the day he was admitted, he suddenly went missing. No one could locate where he was," said Thalduwa. Thalduwa went on to say that due to a foul smell and taste in the water, the people of the area and had climbed up to the tank, and opened the tank to find the dead body. "We still don't know how he had died. The Government post mortem was done, but they also cannot confirm the cause of death as yet. We feel he has jumped into the tank, as a dead body would be rather difficult to be carried up to the water tank to be thrown in," Thalduwa stated. Meanwhile, Thalduwa confirmed that an investigation is currently underway to firstly identify the cause of death and how the body had not been found earlier.
