Decapitated body brought from Hanwella

The decapitated body of a woman found in a suitcase at Dam Street had been transported to Colombo from Hanwella in a Hanwella-Pettah (143) bus, The Morning learnt. Speaking to The Morning, Police Media Spokesman Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Ajith Rohana said that closed circuit television (CCTV) footage had been obtained of the perpetrator leaving the bag behind. “The suspect who brought the suitcase to that location has been caught in a nearby CCTV camera. It showed the suspect, wearing a mask, dragging the suitcase along the road before placing it on the roadside and leaving.” The victim is a woman believed to be between 17-20 years of age. The body is presently at the Police Mortuary in Colombo, while the postmortem examination is set to take place. The body of the unidentified woman was found inside a suitcase abandoned near Dam Street in Colombo on 1 March.
