The United National Party (UNP) has not decided to welcome the return of those who had left the party, The Morning learnt.
UNP General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said that no such decision had been taken.
“The Working Committee (WC) has not decided on that as yet. They must meet and decide.”
When The Morning queried if the UNP would accept those who had defected to the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) led by former UNP Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa, Kariyawasam said that it would be up to the WC to make a call on the matter.
“When the time comes, the WC will meet and decide,” the former parliamentarian said.
Recently, the UNP announced that it would take disciplinary action against those who had joined any other political movements.
