The Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) is to recommence operations from Wednesday (20) with a limited amount of staff adhering to strict health and security guidelines, The Morning learnt. Commissioner General of Motor Traffic Sumith Alahakoon told The Morning that the clients who expect to receive services including vehicle registration, issuance of vehicle licenses, and issuance of vehicle number plates will have to make an appointment obeying the rules imposed by the Government to use the last digit of the national identity card (NIC) number to obtain services. Services such as the registration of new vehicles, transfering of vehicles, and issuance of vehicle number plates will be provided by the head office in Narahenpita by first contacting 070 6354109-120 to make an appointment.
