Devapathiraja girls win inter-school U-19 cricket title for sixth consecutive year

Devapathiraja College, Rathgama emerged champions for the sixth time in a row in the Under-19 girls' inter-school cricket tournament, conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association (SLSCA) under the auspices of Sri Lanka Cricket  (SLC), at Bloomfield grounds, Colombo on Friday (30 April).

Twenty girls-school teams participated in the tournament. The final had to be reduced to a 14-over game due to wet ground conditions. Devapathiraja College beat Wadduwa Central by 12 runs in the final on Friday. Sri Lanka women’s cap Kaveesha Dilhari of Devapathiraja who excelled with both bat and ball was adjudged the Player of the Final.

Devapathiraja girls had emerged champion of the annual all-island U-19 inter-school cricket tournament in years 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020 (this season).

Chinthaka Edirimanne, Head of Cricket Operations of SLC, Thilak Watthuhewa, President of the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association, Ms. Hema Jayawardane, Vice President of the SLSCA, and Kumar Gamhewage, Managing Director of the website batsman.com, participated in the post-match awards presentation ceremony as its chief guests.

Devapathiraja - Rathgama: 88/5 (14) (Imesha Dulani 22, Kaveesha Dilhari 17; Inushi Shenorika 3/15, Nethmi Poorna 2/13)

Wadduwa Central College: 76/8 (14) (Navodya Nethmini 23; Sachini Nisansala 2/8, Vihara Sewwandi 2/16, Kaveesha Dilhari 2/17).
