In order to stabilise prices of dhal and white sugar, the Government has decided to import these commodities with the mediation of Lanka Sathosa and co-operative movements.
As the Department of Government Information stated that dhal and white sugar are marked at higher prices in the local market, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal tabled by the Minister of Trade to import the two aforementioned products from India and Australia.
According to the Department of Government Information, the Government has recognised the dire need to make available the essential commodities without a shortage in the local market amidst the Covid-19 pandemic circumstances.
