Dhammika Perera won’t take oaths until SC decides on FR filed against appointment

20 Jun 2022

Dhammika Perera has promised to the Supreme Court that he will not be taking oaths as a Member of Parliament or as a Minister until a decision is made with regard to the Fundamental Rights petitions that have been filed before the Supreme Court challenging his appointment to Parliament. This announcement was made today (20). The Centre for Policy Alternatives (CPA), Movement for a People’s Struggle member Duminda Nagamuwa and Journalist Roel Raymond are amongst those who have filed Fundamental Rights petitions against the business tycoon. The independent petitioners filed the petitions stating Perera's name was not included in the district nomination lists or national lists of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna in the 2020 general election and his appointment as a Member of Parliament for the party is unconstitutional.
