Diesel to be given to essential services, consignment to arrive soon: Ministry Secy

05 Jun 2022

Diesel will be distributed around the country, but essential services will be given the first priority and despite the rumours, there isn't a shortage in diesel says Secretary to the Ministry of Power Mr Mapa Pathirana He made this statement while speaking to The Morning today (05). "People are spreading false rumours. We have calculated the consumption and have come to the conclusion that 2500MT of diesel per day is enough to meet the demands. The problem is that people are creating a sense of panic amongst the population and people are trying to stock diesel in anticipation of a diesel shortage. This should not be done. We have decided to give first priority to essential servicesm," said Mr Mapa. He further added that a consignment of diesel is due to arrive in the country next week and that all arrangements have been made to ensure a smooth delivery. "All payments are arranged for and we will be receiving the consignment within the next week. We will be distributing the diesel once that arrives as well. Yes, there was a shortage in the country before, but we do not have a diesel shortage anymore," he concluded.
