Digital platform for educational reforms on 26 March

12 Mar 2021

A digital platform to obtain opinions and ideas to go for educational reforms will begin on March 26, said Prof. Kapila Perera, Secretary to the Ministry of Education. He was speaking after participating in a preliminary round of discussions held yesterday on educational reforms to be made in line with the government's national policy statement. The Secretary further said, "The new government's policy statement has given priority to educational reform. My feeling is that there has not been a complete educational reform in our country since the 1970s. “Educational reform is not just about curriculum revision. The future of the nation can only be shaped by providing quality education to children. Only then can a country move forward in the development process. “That is why the President and the Government have established a separate State Ministry for Educational Reforms. The Ministry of State and the Ministry of Education have done a great deal of work in a short period of time." In addition, two task forces have been established for this purpose. One of them is the Educational Task Force approved by the Cabinet. The other is the Presidential Task Force appointed for a complete educational reform with the intervention of the President during the Covid epidemic. Through this, the government hopes to reform the school system, university system and pre-school system by taking into account the past, present and future trends. Prof. Kapila also said, "This is being done to include different sections of the country, from the street worker to the President of the country, in reforms. We have taken steps to create a digital platform instead of making reforms through traditional conferences." "Accordingly, the platform will be launched on March 26. Through this, we hope to get all the suggestions, allegations and criticisms on the educational reform programme, policy framework, implementation method etc.," he said.
