Distribution of ballot papers: Central Mail Exchange staff call off strike

Workers at the Central Mail Exchange yesterday (29) called off the strike action that was launched since midnight Sunday (28) due to an issue over the distribution of ballot papers for the 2020 general election through the post.

According to the workers at the Central Mail Exchange, ballot papers are usually distributed islandwide through the Central Mail Exchange. However, this time around, the authorities have assigned the task to the Havelock Town Post Office.

The strike action was launched against this decision and the striking workers demanded that the decision be reversed and the task of distributing ballot papers for the 2020 general election be handed back to the Central Mail Exchange.

The strike was finally called off after authorities had in writing assured to address the issue of ballot paper distribution.
