Don’t impede traditional ways of life of people: President instructs officials

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa who attended the third installment of the ‘Gama Samaga Pilisandarak' programme in Balangoda today instructed the officials not to impede the traditional ways of life of the people. The programme Gama Samaga Pilisandarak or ‘Conversation with the Village’ was held at Rawanakanda, Imbulpe in Balangoda, the President’s Media Division said. It said the people briefed the President on the issues affecting the Kitul tapping. The President instructed the Police, Forest Conservation and Wildlife officials to allow Kitul tapping to be continued unhindered. President Rajapaksa also ordered an end to the arbitrary prosecution of villagers who enter into the forests and forest reserves as a part of their daily livelihood including to tap kitul and pluck tea leaves. He pointed out that it has been made clear on several occasions that the traditional lifestyle of the people does not harm the environment and therefore, instructed the officials to provide their assistance in this regard.
