The Chief Epidemiologist at the Epidemiology Unit, Dr. Sudath Samaraweera, today urged the people not to leave home unless its absolutely necessary to do so.
Speaking at a news briefing this morning, Dr. Samaraweera said senior citizens and those who are sick should not venture out.
“We request them not to visit the clinics as their medicines will be delivered to their homes. In early October, we started delivering medicines in Gampaha and Colombo. From today, we will deliver medicines islandwide through the officials of the Postal Department and with the intervention of PHIs and Grama Niladharis, if necessary,” he said.
Dr. Samaraweera said a healthy and a young person could be sent on behalf of a patient to collect medicines from a clinic.
Medical treatment of cancer patients who visited the Apeksha Hospital, would be done at the nearest cancer ward of the hospital in a respective area, he said.
