Easter attacks probe | Maithri denies allegations of offering perks

In a statement issued yesterday (20), former President Maithripala Sirisena denied the allegations levelled against him by former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando at the Presidential Commission of Inquiry PCoI) probing Easter Sunday Attacks on Friday (18). The former Defence Secretary said the former President had attempted to coerce former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara into claiming responsibility for the entire travesty and resign with the promise of an ambassadorial role and other privileges. Former President Sirisena hopes to address and clarify the statements made by Fernando if he is afforded an opportunity at the PCoI probing Easter Sunday Attacks in the future, the statement added.
