Easter PCoI, SOC recommendations: Ministerial comm. report on 31st

21 Mar 2021

By Lahiru Pothmulla The final report of the six-member ministerial committee studying the recommendations contained in the reports by the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) probing the Easter Sunday terror attacks and the Parliamentary Sectoral Oversight Committee (SOC) on National Security would be submitted on 31 March. Committee Member Co-Cabinet Spokesman Udaya Gammanpila told The Sunday Morning that committee members could not meet this week as the majority of them were in their constituencies. “However, the committee will meet in Parliament next week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday,” he said. Earlier, he told The Morning that a special public regulatory commission (PRC) would be established to implement certain recommendations in the two said reports. The committee was initially mandated to submit its report on 15 March, but the members sought an extension last week. Accordingly, Gammanpila said that they had sought a two-week extension to study the two reports due to their complexity and sensitivity. The committee is chaired by Minister Chamal Rajapaksa, and includes Ministers Johnston Fernando, Gammanpila, Co-Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Ramesh Pathirana, Prasanna Ranatunga, and Rohitha Abeygunawardena.
