The Secretary of Defence yesterday (16) said that authorities were carrying out parallel investigations into the 2019 Easter Sunday attack, and that the information that 97 prior warnings were given was already known. Secretary of Defence Major General (Retd.) Kamal Gunaratne told The Morning that authorities were conducting investigations alongside the probe by the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI). “We’re carrying out our own investigations. So, I cannot reveal any new information as it would affect these investigations.” He went on to say that the matter of prior warnings was revealed several months ago. “This information came out about two months ago. It is not something new that I quoted. It was revealed in the inquiry by the Presidential Commission,” the Defence Secretary said. Addressing a function at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, Gunaratne told those gathered that security and intelligence agencies had received 97 prior warnings on the Easter Sunday bombings.
