The Ministry of Health had formulated a draft of the guidelines to hold the parliamentary election under pandemic conditions, with the next meeting with the Election Commission (EC) scheduled to be held tomorrow (18). Ministry of Health – Environment, Occupational Health, and Food Safety Unit Deputy Director General Dr. Lakshman Gamlath said that the draft would need to be reviewed by the relevant stakeholders. “We have to run through all the steps in the draft with the EC to see if they can implement the various measures we have set out,” Dr. Gamlath said, noting that they would be meeting with the commission tomorrow. Dr. Gamlath revealed that he was appointed by the Director General of Health Services as the co-ordinating officer between the Ministry and the commission, pertaining to the formulation of the election health guidelines. “I’m more or less the point man and I will consult with officials in other units of the Health Ministry with regard to the different aspects of the guidelines. For example, with regard to transportation guidelines, I would consult the Epidemiology Unit,” he said. By Skandha Gunasekara
