The Elections Commission(EC) has said that it would seek the Attorney General's(AG) advice to fill the vacant parliamentary seat of late MP Salinda Dissanayake.
According to the EC Kurunegala district electoral officer had submitted several nominations based on the requests of various entities to fill the vacancy.
Elections Secretariat Director General Saman Ratnayake stated that the matter was referred to the AG's Department for legal advice.
Ratnayake further noted that the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) had been requested to nominate an individual to fill the vacancy created by Shantha Bandara who resigned from the party’s national list last month to fill the vacant seat of late MP Dissanayake.
