EDB Chairman Prabhash Subasinghe resigns

[caption id="attachment_77524" align="alignleft" width="300"] Prabhash Subasinghe[/caption] Prabhash Subasinghe has tendered his resignation from the position of Chairperson of Export Development Board (EDB), The Morning Business exclusively learns. “The reason I have done so is I have set my one year at EDB as agreed with His Excellency President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. I took the job only for one year and now I need to pursue my own business matters,” Subasinghe told The Morning today. Speaking further, Subasinghe noted that it has been a great year for him at EDB as they managed to support exporters and connect them with customers across the world. “We have some incredible export numbers even with the Covid-19 situation. Extremely proud to have served as the head of the institution. However, I have now formally stepped down,” he added. Subasinghe’s resignation comes shiortly after Board of Investment (BOI) Chairman Susantha Ratnayake, another prominent corporate personality, announced his resignation. Both Ratnayake and Subasinghe were appointed as the heads of their respective institutions in mid-December 2019. Subasinghe was appointed as the Chairperson of EDB replacing Indira Malwatte. He is Chairman of Global Rubber Industries (Pvt) Ltd., Managing Director at Global Sea Foods (Pvt) Ltd., and Chairman at Sri Lanka Association of Manufacturers and Exporters of Rubber Products. In addition to this, he is also on the board of SANASA Development Bank Plc and The Sri Lanka Society of Rubber Industry.
