Elections Commission revises Electoral roll under new system

17 Jun 2021

The Elections Commission has decided to revise the Electoral Rolls for this year under a new system, they said in a statement. The Commission states that the revision of the Electoral Rolls commenced on the 1st of June. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic in the country, they have informed that the activities will be carried out under the new methods as per the health guidelines. Accordingly, the Elections Commission in a statement has instructed that the relevant action be taken only if the registration of the voter is to be amended after examining the information pertaining to his residence in the Electoral Roll last year. "If you want to change your place of residence, it is sufficient to meet the Grama Niladhari of the area and complete the relevant form and submit it," the Election Commission said. Meanwhile, the Commission informs that one can obtain information from the Grama Niladhari of the Grama Niladhari Division where one is registered to submit the information in the Electoral Roll for the applications for the admission of children to the first grade. The Commission also stated that information on recent years can be obtained by accessing the Election Commission's website at www.elections.gov.lk and entering its National Identity Card number. They also emphasize that this information does not need to be certified by a Grama Niladhari or any other official.
