The Elections Commission says general elections cannot be held on 25th April 2020, in light of the Coronavirus outbreak in the country.
Chairman of the Elections Commission, Mahinda Deshapriya made these comments at a special press conference held in Colombo a short while ago.
"Even if the World Health Organization (WHO) declares that Sri Lanka is safe, the Election Commission is unable to hold the general elections as many tasks have fallen behind," Deshapriya added.
However, he said he was unable to give the next date for the general election as everything depended on the coronavirus.
