Low income earners will be given a bigger relief on electricity bills during the quarantine period, Minister of Power and Energy, Mahinda Amaraweera said today.
Amaraweera speaking at a press conference said he had submitted proposals with regard to the relief package at the Cabinet meeting held today.
"In consultation with the Finance Ministry we hope to provide this benefit by next week", Amaraweera said.
He said all customers will be provided a relief on the surcharge recorded in the electricity bills of March and April.
Amaraweera also noted that a grace period will be provided to consumers who have not yet paid their bills.
