Emergency regulations likely to be extended

By Tharumalee Silva Emergency regulations enforced after the Easter Sunday attacks are likely to be extended this week for another month. Speaking to The Sunday Morning, Sri Lanka Army Spokesperson Brigadier Sumith Atapattu said that emergency regulations would likely be extended this week due to ongoing investigations. "We have not yet received any information regarding this matter. However, as far as we are concerned, it will be extended," he said. He further stated that a final decision would be taken in Parliament, which is set to meet this week. Most political parties have said that they would vote in support of extending the emergency regulations. The emergency regulations were enforced for a month after the Easter Sunday attacks, giving the military extended powers.
