Skipper Joe Root (66 n.o.), with his 5oth Test-match fifty, and Jonny Bairstow (47 n.o.) –two Yorkshiremen– carried England to a commanding position of 127/2 with a solid 110-run partnership, in their reply to the hosts’ first-innings total of 135 all out, in the first cricket Test between the two countries in Galle on Thursday (14).
