Needing further 36 runs to win with seven second-innings wickets intact, Jonny Bairstow and debutant Dan Lawrence carried England to victory and an unassailable 1-0 lead in the two-match series. They took only 9.2 overs on Monday to reach their target.
This was England’s fifth win in as many as the same number of matches in Sri Lanka.
