National People’s Power (NPP) presidential candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake yesterday (26) promised amendments to the law to ensure election manifestos are implemented, if he is elected president. Dissanayake made this pledge after he released his election manifesto at an event held yesterday. Speaking at the event, Dissanayake said that his first priority if elected president would be to introduce amendments to the law which will make it mandatory for the president to implement his election manifesto. He said that most presidents failed to stick to their election promises and that needed to change. Dissanayake also said that no one can be above the law and all will be treated equally. He said that the Cabinet would be limited to 30 and benefits to former presidents would be slashed. “We need a new political culture and we will take a step towards that,” he said. Dissanayake’s manifesto mainly focuses on educational reforms, health, housing facilities, sports, arts, and culture; establishing a secure nation for all including women, children, youth, elders, people with special needs and the LGBT community; creating a stable economy, improving agriculture and livestock development, fisheries, and aquatic resources development, public administration, effective police service, combating drug menace, national security, foreign policy, media freedom, and many other sectors.
