EU observers call for violence free polls

European Union election observers today called for a violence free election after at least one shooting incident was reported. The Chief Observer of the European Union Election Observer Mission (EU EOM) Marisa Matias told reporters today that the EU EOM will gather information from their observers around the country on any incident and present its findings on Monday. She said that the EU EOM will not make any determination before the election ends. Matias also stressed on the importance of a free and fair election, free of any violence. In response to an invitation by the Election Commission, the European Union has deployed an EU Election Observation Mission to Sri Lanka to observe the presidential election.
