EPL: Chelsea stunned by West Brom; Liverpool back to their best

After a 14-game unbeaten run for Chelsea, under their new Manager Thomas Tuchel, came to an embarrassing end when 19-seat West Bromwich Albion beat them 5-2 at Stamford Bridge. Christian Pulisic opened the scores for Chelsea. Chelsea was soon down to 10 men when Thiago Silva received a second yellow and red card for a reckless tackle. West Brom seized the opportunity and scored two quick goals, through Matheus Pereira, before halftime. Chelsea was down and out in the second half as Callum Robinson scored two and Mbaye Diagne scored another to seal a massive win for West Brom. Mason Mount scored a second-half goal for the home side, but it wasn’t enough to erase the embarrassment. West Brom should use this result to turn their season around and get over the relegations zone.

Liverpool’s new signing Diogo Jota announced his return after injury with two goals in their 3-0 win against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. Liverpool had a slump of form after they lost many of their first-team players due to injur; Jota was one of them who did well when he first burst into the scene. Mohammad Salah was the other goal scorer for the visitors. Leeds managed to win their tie against Sheffield 2-1 on Saturday (3), while table-toppers Manchester City beat third seat Leicester City 2-0 at the King Power Stadium. Man City now has a 17-point lead against Man United, who has two games in hand.

La Liga: Benzema and Asensio strikes win for Real Madrid

Real Madrid beat Eibar 2-0 as they restarted their quest to topple Atletico from the top spot of the league. Marco Asensio opened the scores for the defending champions. Their leading goal scorer Karim Benzema sealed the game in the 73rd minute to keep them three points adrift of their city rivals, Atletico Madrid. Gerard Moreno’s Patrick earned a much-needed win for Villareal against Granada. It put them inside the top five, just one point ahead of sixth place Real Sociedad. Huesca beat Levante 2-0 on Saturday while Osasuna drew against Getafe.

Bundesliga: Bayern extend their lead on top; Dortmund beaten

Table-toppers and defending champions Bayern Munich restarted their league with a 1-0 win against RB Leipzig. Leipzig had the perfect opportunity to cut down the deficit with Bayern, but they couldn’t find any sort of fluency on the pitch. Leon Goretzka scored the winner for Bayern as they extended their lead at the top by seven points. Dortmund was stunned by a late goal by Eintracht Frankfurt’s Andre Silva. Dortmund conceded an own goal in the 11th minute by Nico Schulz. Matt Hummels equalised in the first half, but an 87th-minute strike from Andre Silva got the win for Frankfurt.

Leverkusen beat Schalke 2-1 on Saturday. Mainz and Arminia drew 1-1 while Wolfsburg beat Koln 1-0. Augsburg won their game against Hoffenheim 2 -1. Monchenglabach beat SC Freiburg 2-1 also on Saturday.

Ligue 1: PSG was beaten by Lille; Monaco win big

The two top teams went head to head on Saturday, and it was Lille who came on top. Jonathan David’s 20th-minute strike proved to be the difference. Neymar was sent off in the 90th minute. This was his third red card in his last 14 games in Ligue 1. Monaco registered a big win by 4-0 against Metz. Two goals from Ben Yedder and one goal each from Cesc Fabregas and Kevin Volland secured them the win. Lyon drew their game against Lens on Saturday.
