Ex-SPC Chairman, ‘White van’ duo granted bail

The Colombo Magistrate’s Court today(6) granted bail to Former State Pharmaceuticals Corporation(SPC) Chairman Rumi Mohamed and two other individuals who were remanded over the ‘White Van’ media briefing. The two individuals who made controversial statements during the ‘white van’ press briefing organised by former Minister Rajitha Senaratne were arrested and remanded based on a complaint made by an individual named Kumudu Pradeep. When Senaratne’s case was taken up on the 30 of December, the Deputy Solicitor General Dilipa Pieris had requested court to issue an arrest warrant on former SPC Chairman for allegedly paying Rs. 2 million to the two participants of the ‘white van’ press briefing. The court rejected the issuance of an arrest warrant, However Mohamed surrendered to the CID the following day.
